MERCEDES DIAZ
Mercedes Diaz is a Venezuelan architect, artist, and the creative force behind Atelier 758. Her relationship with design began early, inspired by her grandmother, Paula Diaz, a fashion designer, and by the architectural models of her cousin Rafael Herrera, early influences that shaped her fascination with form, composition, and the process of creating by hand.
After earning her degree in Architecture in Venezuela in 2016, Mercedes moved to Canada in 2017, where her career evolved across architectural drafting, graphic design, home staging, and interior styling. Each chapter brought her closer to a more tactile and personal way of creating, eventually leading her to explore textured abstract art.
In 2020, she co-founded Atelier 758 with her partner, Alejandro, transforming her artistic practice into a space for creativity and connection. Since then, Mercedes has guided hundreds of people through textured art experiences, from intimate private sessions to corporate and collaborative events, while continuing to develop her own body of work as an artist.
Her approach is deeply influenced by her architectural background: an appreciation for materiality, proportion, simplicity, and the relationship between art and space. Through original artwork, commissions, and thoughtfully designed creative experiences, Mercedes explores texture as a way to slow down, connect, and create with intention.

ALEJANDRO TONDOLO
Alejandro is a Venezuelan Civil Engineer with a background in construction, project coordination, and hands-on craftsmanship. After moving to Canada in 2012, he began his career as a carpenter, an experience that shaped his appreciation for materials, precision, and the process of making things by hand.
In 2020, Alejandro co-founded Atelier 758 with his partner, Mercedes Diaz, bringing his technical and operational expertise to the creative side of the business. Behind the scenes, he oversees key aspects of Atelier’s business operations, from finances and inventory to logistics and production, while also supporting art experiences and special projects.
His craftsmanship remains an important part of Atelier’s work. Alejandro hand-builds the frames for Mercedes’ original pieces using locally sourced BC oak, bringing together thoughtful construction and the organic nature of her textured work.
Together, Mercedes and Alejandro have shaped Atelier 758 as a meeting point between art, craftsmanship, and shared creative experiences.
